Mezzo Bar and Grill

LOCATION
Melbourne CBD

PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
A vintage image of a little Italian village panelled across the back wall is the backdrop for Mezzo Bar and Grill's Southern Italian dishes. Warm browns, bare wooden tables and splashes of red make up the new costume for this revived restaurant. Not all has been lost in the makeover its former face of Oyster Little Bourke to Mezzo. Fresh oysters are still on the menu and are half price between 5 and 6.30pm - a refreshing way to start the afternoon.

Once a small collection of empty shells is cluttered on our plates at our place by the bar we move to the aforementioned bare tables set with linen napkins tied together with the flirtatious shade of red. Having already started our courses we move to the a la piastre (grills) of the menu. The Mount Leura angus beef rib eye is served with heirloom carrots and onions, and dressed in horseradish oil. A pair of meltingly tender lamb shanks is served with rustic baked potatoes and carrots with sprigs of rosemary instilling the meat. Arancini balls hide herbed green peas within their fluffy rice casing. Chocolate mousse laced with strawberries is encased within crunchy cannelloni shells and garnished with orange zest. After such a delicious experience, our only other desire is to move back to the bar where we started our evening, and continue our exploration though the Italian wines.
